02. Information
Upon arrival, you are transferred to the hotel by private vehicle. During the evening we visit Plaka, the old city of Athens, to enjoy a welcome dinner with live folkloric show.
After breakfast we enjoy a panoramic drive around the most famous landmarks such as Hadrian’s Arch, St. Paul’s Church, Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Continue for a photo stop at Panathenaic Stadium, passing by Zappeion and Temple of Olympian Zeus. Then we make our way to the archaeological site of Acropolis, one of the great ‘Wonders of the Ancient World’ with its many monuments, including the awesome Parthenon, the Propylea, the temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens. We mix up with locals in a cozy local coffee shop enjoying its unique atmosphere and delicacies and we finish our historical tour at the famous Acropolis museum under Acropolis. The rest of our day is free at leisure.
Our day starts with a visit at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens that can effortlessly lay claim to being one of the very greatest museums in the world. From the towering bronze Poseidon to the shimmering gold mask of Agamemnon, the antiquities on display here provide the staple images of ancient Greece. Afterwards we depart to Sounio with a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs. Upon arrival at Cape Sounio we visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world. Full of memories and experiences we take the road back to the hotel.
Accompanied by our licensed guide, we take like locals the public transportation and discover the tasteful treasures of Athens. Depending on the day, we visit “Varvakios”, the Central Food Market of Athens, we taste traditional sweets and koulouri and we have small stops at local food stores. The evening is free at leisure to enjoy some last shopping or strolling at the vibrant city of Athens.
After breakfast and according to the departure flight we are transferred to the airport full of memories and new friends from Greece.
Athens is the historical Capital of Europe and one of the world’s oldest cities, with a long history dating from the first settlement in the Neolithic age and the 5th Century BC “The Golden Age of Pericles” leaving behind the admirable culture and splendid Monuments most of which are UNESCO Heritage.
That history is the biggest draw of Athens is no secret. The ancient capital where democracy was born has been continuously inhabited for no less than seven millennia. This historic Greek capital was once home to the world’s greatest civilization that gave us theater, philosophy, cartography, the alphabet, and the Olympics, among other things.
A leisurely wander into less touristy parts of Athens offers an interesting juxtaposition to this historical character. In our times, Athens is a city that would very much like to be defined by its creative communities, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. A visit at Athens, will make you feel like you are travelling back in time.

This tour was mind blowing! Our guide at the Epidaurus site was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The olive oil tour was very nice. I suspect an olive oil tour is more memorable when the harvest season is in full action.
